The WHM is warming up for volunteers this spring!

As the Williamstown Historical Museum begins its extended open hours from April through November, we invite all members of the community to give back by serving as a docent so we may keep our doors open for visitors throughout the spring and summer.

Dear WHM Members and Friends,

Happy spring from Williamstown’s history center!  As the Williamstown Historical Museum begins its extended open hours from April through November, we invite all members of the community to give back by serving as a docent so we may keep our doors open for visitors throughout the spring and summer.  If you are interested in history, would like to be part of a friendly small-town organization, and have been looking for a way to give back to the community, the WHM has a volunteer job for you!   At the museum we provide free access to excellent research resources, charming exhibits, and free public programs related to local history.  With your help as a docent you will contribute to this valuable town resource.

Our docents help to welcome visitors to the Williamstown Historical Museum at the historic South Center School in South Williamstown.  To serve as a WHM docent, no experience is required and our Executive Director, Sarah Currie, will provide training and support to all volunteers.  In addition to spending time greeting visitors to the museum, our docents are invited to assist with projects, help plan events, and carry out their own research or personal projects while they are at the museum.  Our docents will also receive the benefit of training on useful research resources like Ancestry.com, Newspaperarchive.com, Newspapers.com, and the WHM online catalog.

The Williamstown Historical Museum will be open from April through November on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Most of our docents work once a week for a two-hour shift, while other WHM docents work once a month or twice a month for a two-hour shift.  If you are interested in volunteering at the museum, we will find a place for you!

You are invited to attend an open information session for prospective and returning volunteers on Tuesday, March 20 at 10 a.m. at the Williamstown Historical Museum at 32 New Ashford Road.  If you would like more information about volunteering or to RSVP to the volunteer information session, please contact Sarah at [email protected] or 413.458.2160 and we look forward to seeing you this spring!
